Poppy & Co. has had a wonderful first week! Every one has been so welcoming and supportive. I can't wait to do it again this week.
One of the most common questions I get is what are our days/hours.
Yes, we're only open Thursday through Saturday.
I totally get that people really want us to be open more. I love that, and I am super flattered. But for now, it just doesn't work for us.
There are a LOT of reasons for this.
1. We're striving to keep work/life balance in check. Many of us are moms and being able to drop off the kids/pick them up at the end of the day and spend evenings with our families is why we're doing this instead of a 9 to 5 corporate job working for someone else.
2. We need one day to buy and two days to paint- at minimum. Trust me, we're working 7 days a week even if the store is open only 3 days. They're long, hard days of getting dirty and sweaty moving furniture and painting. I'm often painting until 9 PM and -then- I drive a load of completed items down to the store most nights.
3. Our stuff flies out the store so fast in three days, if we were open more days, our store would be empty and we wouldn't be able to replenish our stock to keep pace. A busy painting week for me is having three pieces to paint. If I sell 6 things that week, I have to scramble to replenish. This is a good problem to have, but it makes for a really tough week ahead to restock my space in the store.
4. People don't realize that we do 90 percent of the furniture and smalls ourselves. The old fashioned way. By hand. And we pride ourselves doing quality work and keeping our prices affordable. The only way we can do this is by doing it ourselves (and not paying others to do it for us or buying wholesale) and by staffing the store ourselves. We don't pay ourselves to run the store. Customers totally benefit from this, and we pass on the savings to you.
I hope that helps give people a better understanding of why we've set it up the way we have. And to also take the time to thank you for supporting us!
Thank you for explaining my friend!! Its a full tilt life we live!
